Positive Academic Research on International Marriages

Decades of studies have shown that relationships that start from international matchmaking sites have a smaller divorce rate.

Critics have railed against modern international dating from its earliest days in the 1990s. These detractors have been amazingly successful at getting the mainstream media to accept their version of international dating as a sleazy, corrupt, and often criminal enterprise.

For years, it was easy for them to set that tone because there was so little research on global dating and international marriage. But in the last twenty years, a slew of young academics, nearly all of whom started as critics of international dating, have completed numerous peer reviewed dissertations, articles, and books.

One of the things they have discovered is that there is apparently a lower divorce rate among couples that meet on international dating sites than there are for other husbands and wives. Think about that for a moment.

Despite all of the propaganda to the contrary, the best official estimates in the United States and the European Union show that marriages that start on international dating sites are much more SUCCESSFUL than other marriages.

Evidence That International Marriages Succeed

Data from hundreds of marriages over the years serve as credible evidence in the success of international marriages.

Evidence of the success of these marriages has been available for years, but anti-international dating critics convinced people that the evidence simply could not be accurate. For instance, in 1997, Dr. Robert J. Scholes, in an official report to the United States Congress, explained that: ". . .marriages arranged through these services would appear to have a lower divorce rate than the nation as a whole, fully 80 percent of these marriages having lasted over the years for which reports are available."

Although this is positive data, you can see the double standard of anti-international dating academics in his statement because to placate the critics, Dr. Scholes had to add in the weakening phrase "would appear to have" in front of the positive data about the low divorce rate. It is the sort of standard bias that is constantly pushed into discussions of international dating.

One study from Switzerland reported that marriages between Swiss men and foreign women were approximately 10% less likely to end in divorce than marriages between Swiss men and women.

In her 2016 book, Buying a Bride: An Engaging History of Mail-Order Matches, Marcia Zug, a law professor at the University of South Carolina, strongly supports the contention that these are not green card marriages. One marriage agency she contacted reported 600 marriages and 21 divorces in the previous seven years. She does say that it is hard to get exact numbers, but she is upbeat about these relationships.

She explains in her conclusion that, ". . .one study claims the success rate for mail-order marriages is 80 percent after five years, which makes it comparable to conventional domestic marriages, or perhaps slightly better."

Success rates for mail-order brides over the years has been significantly higher at 80%.
